What is the process for rezoning a piece of property?
A. Application is submitted to the Planning Department with a $175 non-refundable application fee.
B. All property owners within 200 ft of the request will be notified by letter from the Planning Department, as well as notification in the local newspaper.
C. First public hearing will be held at the Planning and Zoning Board Meeting. Anyone who wishes to speak for or against the zoning will speak at this time.
D. The Planning and Zoning Board makes a recommendation to the City Council.
E. The City Council will hold a second public hearing before voting on the rezoning request. Anyone who wishes to speak can also do so at that time.
F. After the second public hearing, the City Council will vote approval or denial of the request.
Note: Any rezoning request that has 20% or greater protest from the property owners within 200 feet will require a 4/5 vote from the City Council for approval.

D. A public hearing is conducted at the Zoning Board of Adjustment meeting for anyone who wishes to speak for or against the variance request.
E. Final Decision is voted on by the Zoning Board of Adjustment.
Note: Decisions from the Zoning Board of Adjustment can only be appealed to a court of appropriate jurisdiction and not the City Council.
How do I purchase Sheriff Sale Property?
A. All Sheriff Sale property deeded to the City of Kilgore must be approved for sale by the CIty Council.
B. Submit a letter of request to the Planning Deparment listing your name, address, telephone number, the lot you would like to purchase, what are your plans for the property, and the price.
C. The request for purchase will be placed on the City Council agenda.
D. If approved, the City Attorney will provide the deed and the Planning Department will handle the filing at the courthouse.
