Charles Ashton, GIS Coordinator
“A product of East Texas, Charles Ashton is a 6th generation Texan and his family is from the Lake Sam Rayburn Reservoir area. Mr. Ashton was born in Lufkin, Texas and graduated from Lufkin High School. After high school, Mr. Ashton enlisted in the military and served in the US Army Calvary. Specialist Ashton received the Army Achievement Medal during his service and an Honorable Discharge from the Army. Mr. Ashton earned a Bachelors and Masters from SFASU combining economics and GIS technology. Mr. Ashton is married to his high school sweetheart, Pamela, and has a blended family of 5 children. Mr. Ashton’s hobbies include sports, biking, and the outdoors. A lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, Mr. Ashton continues to give back to the community by helping others.”
The mission of the City of Kilgore Geographic Information Systems Department (GIS) is to provide accurate and up to date digital data for city employees, governmental entities and the public to assist in the decision making process.
The resposibilities for the GIS Coordinator are to design, develop, implement and manage the City's geographic information systems and to provide technical support for enterprise-wide applications. This includes geographic research, data development, database maintenance, spatial analysis and cartographic production on various maps and dataset layers.
