John White, GISP - GIS Coordinator
Mr. White holds a Bachelors of Science - Political Science degree from the University of Texas at Tyler, 1997 and an Associates of Applied Science - Geographic Information Systems Technician degree from Tyler Junior College, 2003. He started his career in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) as a GIS Technician I Intern for the Gregg Central Appraisal District in Longview, Texas at the end of 2002 and promoted up to GIS Analyst working through September of 2007. In October 2007, John was hired as the GIS Coordinator for the City of Kilgore.
Since 2004 John has been an active member of the East Texas GIS & GPS Users Group (ETUG). He has also been an active member of the South Central Arc Users Group (SCAUG) since 2005. He holds the distinction of being a Certified Geographic Information Systems Professional (GISP) from the GIS Certification Institute (GISCI) awarded on February 25, 2009.
The mission of the City of Kilgore Geographic Information Systems Department (GIS) is to provide accurate and up to date digital data for city employees, governmental entities and the public to assist in the decision making process.
The resposibilities for the GIS Coordinator are to design, develop, implement and manage the City's geographic information systems and to provide technical support for enterprise-wide applications. This includes geographic research, data development, database maintenance, spatial analysis and cartographic production on various maps and dataset layers.
